Color me brightly

  • She Thinks Positive Journal: 38-39

Yesterday I did two faces in She Thinks Positive Journal. The first one I do not like so much:

What I like about her is her expression, sad and pensive. I tried to draw an ear, which did not really work quite well. Not surprising at all because I never draw ears. The next one I like better:

I tried to do the nose in a different way and I think it’s a success. At least I like it much better than the previous style of noses I did, so I will stick to it in the future. I worked a lot on the eyes and that also worked well I think. So, two lessons learned on this one, which is quite a success. What I do not like are her eyebrows. I was so concentrated on the eyes that I simply did not pay attention and they became too strong and went out into her hair. I am thinking about filming one of these girls, maybe tomorrow if the light will be good.

  • Yesterday was a great day. I did another girl in She Thinks Positive Journal and I liked her.

It was also a beautiful sunny day and I went to the town with my mother. We had a coffee in a cafe at the main square and set outside as it was gorgeous sun and rather warm. Then we had a walk next to the river and then an ice cream on our way back.

Today it’s again sunny and very warm. I went for a run and now I am back to my home office. It’s a working day today, but it’s fine, because there are only three days until weekend 🙂

  • Here is a quick update in She Thinks Positive Journal:

I am happy how this one turned out, all facial features being more or less where they should 🙂

It’s the last day of our long weekend, and I did my morning run in the sun. It was cold but beautiful. It’s still sunny and I am heading out for a walk in the town with my mother. Maybe a coffee if we find a nice place, who knows…

  • It’s time for She Thinks Positive Journal update. I have two girls done over the weekend. I am not too pleased with how they turned out but I am reminding myself that this journal is supposed to be totally imperfect. So here they are:

It’s a lovely sunny Monday and I enjoy it even more because it’s part of a long weekend. We are free until Wednesday. I will travel today, so I better get packing. Have a great Monday!

  • Just a quick Sunday note to let you know that it’s done:

I am not at all thrilled with how it looks, but I tried and have ideas for future and that’s what counts.

We are having a very windy weekend and it currently looks like it’s going to rain. I had my morning run and breakfast and now I am tucked in my bed with the phone and my kindle. The plan is to read and doze off and then do some more art. Let’s see what happens…

  • I am continuing my work on house doodle, but in the meantime she wanted my attention:

It looks like a nice sunny Saturday. I already finished my food shopping and ritual breakfast and coffee outing. I am just having a small rest and then will head out for a run. Didn’t mean to go running today, but the day is too good not to use it to be in the sun as long as possible. Have a great Saturday!

  • There was not too much time to work on my doodle this morning, but I am posting a small update:

I have all the houses now, need to finish coloring and then to add more inky doodles. I started doing some doodles around the branches of the tree, simple circles, but they look cute to me. Here’s a close-up:

It’s a beautiful sunny day outside, but very cold. The morning was really cold (only 2.5 degrees C, which is around 36.5 F) but I went for a run anyway. The lake around which I usually run was covered in fog and the atmosphere was so wintery, but quite nice. I did have a mild headache when I woke up, but it disappeared after the run. So, all is good! Moreover, it’s Friday, at last! YAY!

  • Yesterday I started another colored pencil doodle mandala shaped something. I had a sudden urge to draw houses. So houses it is:

There is also a big tree there and we will see if something else will appear over next sessions.

Here’s the full photo, so you can get a better picture of how it is supposed to look:

I truly enjoy my colored pencils and cannot wait for the morning play every day.

Otherwise, I feel rather shaky. I think it may be the weather or the hormones of both. So I will go easy on coffee today, will try to keep the stress low and will hope for the better for tomorrow. I missed my running this morning, because I did not feel up to it. I thought to do some yoga instead, but kept drawing until I was late for work, so that did not work either. Maybe I will manage a late afternoon walk when I get back home. I learned not to force myself to do things, because resistance is there for a reason. So, I am taking it easy.

On the positive side, it’s Thursday, which means that tomorrow is Friday and one more working week is almost over. And then there is a long weekend to look forward to, because we do not work Monday and Tuesday. A whole lot of reasons to feel better, right? 🙂

  • There is this lady I painted actually last week, but it patiently waited its turn to be blogged about:

I used a reference photo online for shading, that’s why it is a bit unusual. I quite like the hair and background kind of merging together. I used watercolor and colored pencils on gessoed background. I like how watercolor behaves on gesso – it’s very forgiving, stays wet longer, does not get absorbed and can be lifted easily. Very handy if you make a lot of mistakes 🙂

It’s Wednesday, which means that less than a half of working week is left to face, which is always a nice feeling. The weather is warm, it was raining last night and this morning everything smells like dry leaves. The air is clean and it would be beautiful to take a long walk in a forest. Alas, I am closed in my office, using my lunch break to write my blog. Yes, I know, it could be worse…

  • I brought some smooth cartridge paper with me, so I could try my Luminance 6901 pencils on it. It’s A3 size, which is a bit too large for me, but if I fold it in half, it seems to be perfect. I could do a bit larger drawing than usual, and it feels good:

Also, it’s very smooth and pencils do well and quickly and evenly cover what needs covering. I was again inspired by autumnal colors and leaf shapes. I find it hard to make good photos lately, because it’s so dark outside, but I guess that’s it. Nothing to do to help it, and as you can see one side of the drawing is darker and one is lighter, even though I put it under a roof window to photograph.

It’s a warm cloudy day today, probably it will rain later on. I used the opportunity to go for a run this morning and not get frozen. It was very enjoyable. It’s only Tuesday, so we are still far from the weekend. I have to concentrate on school because I need to do a follow-up on two case studies and have only four weeks left for that. Of course, I do not feel like writing and researching, but that will be one step closer to my degree, so it has to be done. No use thinking too much.
