Lucy’s coloring book

Color me brightly

  • A quick note today.

This  one is my favourite so far.

After a whole day of rain yesterday, we woke up into a beautiful sunny morning. It’s freezing cold though and I am contempleting whether to go out for a run. Today is the travel day too so I am slowly packing. Have a restful Sunday!

  • It’s raining. I am waiting for the rain to stop so I can go to the market to buy my food for next week. I hope it will stop otherwise I go on diet…

And what better way to use the waiting time than to paint a girl or two…

The lighting is bad, of course as it’s cloudy and sad outside… So, let’s see if the rain goes away or I paint another one.

  • This one started as another hairless girl, but decided in that she will actually grow some hair on one of her sides.

I am not too pleased with her, don’t know why actually. But that’s fine, I don’t have to love all of them.

Good news is it’s Friday! Weather’s not nice, I did not go for a run, so I slept a bit longer. Yesterday I went out for a dinner with a friend of mine. We usually meet once in two weeks and have a dinner in some nice place. Yesterday we went to an american diner place and had huge burgers. It’s lovely having ‘forbidden’ food from time to time. Otherwise I keep very strict diet with minimum carbs and zero sugar, so these occasions are little celebrations of indulgence and friendship which make me very happy.

That’s all for today. Have a happy Friday!

  • Today, there is one more bald girl.

She obviously let go of her hair, as it was very warm this summer. She is having second thoughts now, I think. That’s why she looks so angry.

It’s Thursday and the weather is so very cold that I could hardly run this morning. My nose kept running all the time and my eyes were full of tears. I was breathing hard, and my muscles were stiff, as my body obviously couldn’t handle the cold properly. I am glad I went out though. It was actually sunny and quite nice and there were other runners and lots of fishermen around the lake where I run. I wonder how they manage to stand the cold as they are only sitting or standing for hours.

While I was driving to work, freezing rain started to fall. It looks like it could turn into snow if it goes on. I hope not, it’s still early for snow…

  • She is little bit different. I wanted to see what happens if she had no hair, or very very short haircut:

I like her. I also like this black (called neutral black, which is actually a mixture of red, blue and black).

It’s Wednesday and we are half way through the working week and getting closer to the weekend, which is always good news. The weather is beautiful, blue sky and sunshine, cold but beautiful, especially looking from the inside of my office at lunch break.

Next Wednesday I will be on holiday and Thursday will travel to Croatia. I hope for more sunshine, long walks and long painting hours in between. So nice to have something great to look forward to.

  • As I said, this week it’s using the new watercolors. This is the second girl done entirely with them:

Not my best work, but I very much like this yellow (called ‘golden’ which is not really gold just hansa yellow mixed with orange) and red (madder lake, which is not really madder, but alizarine). Anyway, I think they mix beautifully and give such awesome autumnal impression to her hair.

This week’s Life Book lesson has the similar color scheme. I plan to do it next week.

  • Meet girls No. 40 and 41:

I did them before I bought those new watercolors, but they had to wait for their turn to appear in public 🙂

I still have to work on improving noses and mouths, as I don’t feel quite confident with them yet. I am pretty fine with the eyes though, it was about time after two years of almost every day trying to improve them.

It looked very nice outside at around 8.00 am when I went for a run. There was lots of sunshine, but also freezing wind, so not a very pleasant run at all. Since then the clouds are accumulating and it’s becoming quite dull. In addition, It’s Monday again…

  • Yesterday we went to the local mall because the weather was too bad to go out, we had coffee and a walk around and, of course, we visited the art shop. They had one new interesting thing: White Nights watercolors. They are Russian and therefore cheaper than other fine watercolor brands. I bought a 24 pan box.

Last night I made some swatches:

They are very pigmented, except the browns, which are a bit pale. They mix nicely too, mixes of green and blue being my favorite, of course. The only thing I really do not like is that they did not come in a plastic or metal box, but in the cardboard with plastic insert, so even though I can cover them now, the paper will eventually tear, leaving them with no protection. I do have a big metal box I use for my other ‘orphan’ pans, so I will need to attach a magnet on the bottom of the pans and put them there. Not a big deal, but still…

This morning I painted a new girl in She Thinks Positive Journal. It was done entirely with these paints:

    wp-1478420018034.jpg

I find them very staining, opaque, and hard to lift, so they are a bit unforgiving. They will require some getting used to, but I think it will be worth it because I really like the vibrancy. I will try diluting them more, which will require use of a separate palette, due to afore mentioned cardboard packaging. I have yet to try them on real watercolor paper. This in my journal is just sketching paper with a layer of gesso, not really the ‘right’ surface for wet media.

Today I am traveling and will take them with me to use next week. Let’s see what happens.

  • Just a quick one… This is girl number 43 in my journal. I did not post 40-42 yet, but as I recorded a video of this one, let it be her today:

  • I’ve almost forgotten to write a post today! The day was all messed up by frost and fog preventing me to go for a run first thing in the morning (I went only during lunch break when the fog lifted). So the morning routine was not followed and it made a disturbance in broadcast 🙂

The aim of the lesson was to represent a healing animal in a tribal tatoo style. Effy opted for a bear, but it did not quite resonate with me. I looked on the internet and found this wolf thing. Not that I am much into wolves or tatoos, but it looked easy enough to draw. Ah, was I wrong…

The first difficulty I encountered was caused by my great idea to have a mirror image on the opposite page. How on earth did I think I could draw it to be the exact copy?! In addition, I have this problem when I try to copy an object with many lines that I mix up the lines and cannot figure out which exact line I am drawing… So that’s when the frustration started.

I cannot tell you how many times I had to erase and start again. Another problem was the busy background which made it even more difficult to track what I drew. I used a white pastel pencil, which thankfully could be just wiped out by fingers (that was a good decision). So, after several hours of sweating and almost giving up several times, all covered in pastel dust, I managed to nail it. And I am pretty happy with it. Lesson learned: use gel image transfer next time, lady!
