pattern design, Stamp Carving

Again a busy week at work and fighting for time and light to do some art. I did manage to make a quick pattern for weekly Spoonflower challenge. Here’s video of it:

Nothing special, but I am glad I did it because I want to do as many of these challenges this year.

On Monday a fresh supply of stamping pads arrived:

And I swatched them using an old stamp. I don’t really like the stazon pads, but I am sure I will find a use for them. They are too dark somehow and stamps cannot be cleaned easily after stamping. I suppose it doesn’t matter much as it does not affect the stamp, but still bothers me.

I am working on my 100 day challenge. I am on print number 19 today. I skipped two days this week, but still managed to do a decent number and even carved some new stamps. Here are the prints:

The rest of my life this week was ok. Took car to service on Wednesday and Mother to hairdresser on Friday. Everybody was more or less healthy and well, so nothing to complain about. Today I even managed to update my ‘About’ page here on my website. And hallelujah, l managed to link it here. I find this WordPress app quite difficult to use, frankly speaking. It’s easier on the computer, but you cannot lie on the sofa and type on your computer, so yeah…

So far so good with keeping up with the plan of posting a blog post once a week. What is not so good is that I started transforming this blog into a web site and it’s going very slowly and with many difficulties, because, frankly speaking I have no idea what I am doing most of the time. This past week, I haven’t done anything on that because I was back to work after holiday and did not have a spare moment to do anything.

I did very little art, but managed to post a print on IG every day. I did a watercolor print with my #carvedecember stamps and added some painted details:

The rest are quick prints that I did for my #100littlepatternprints challenge that I made for myself. The trick is to post more often on IG and these are very good because they are done quickly. Sometimes I carved a stamp, sometimes I used what I already had. The point is I gave myself a short art break every day regardless of how busy I was at work; I made a pattern which could be an inspiration for some future pattern design idea; and I posted every day. Cool, right? Here they are:

So, nothing really exciting, but I like the idea of doing these prints for 100 days. #100daychallenge is apparently starting on 31 January this year, but I started early 🙂 I am sure it does not matter 🙂

Otherwise nothing spectacular happened this week, which is good. No news is good news, right? Lola’s had a little soft-bloody-stool episode, which looks like resolving, I hope for the best. Mother is ok. We are still looking for the best place and time for her surgery. The weather is very cold, but mostly sunny. There was some snow fall, and that made everything more beautiful and finally ended long muddy shoes after walk period. Now it’s frozen fingers and toes period. Not complaining, just saying… and longing for dust and sweat period 😉 It cannot come soon enough… I really do not like winter.

Art Journal, Mixed Media, Musings About Stuff, Stamp Carving, video

This week I was on holiday, so there was time for art and I did quite some. There is a challenge called #printersolstice which I am doing. It’s easy because it requires printing only one print a week and it’s already week 3, so these are my three prints:

Have I mentioned last week that I enrolled in Life Book this year? If not, I am mentioning it now 🙂 This is a warm-up piece I painted:

Obviously my word for this year are ‘gently flow’. I don’t have a good feeling about this year, probably because it started with worries and anxiety. I want to just sit quietly and be taken to the point of resolution. I know that’s impossible, so I am going to tread gently. Flow, if possible. And try to be very nice and patient with us all. This was the week where I do not solve any problems, but just get ready to act… from Monday. And that’s in a day almost. Mother is anxious about her impending surgery. Lola grew some lump in her ear. Lumps are a no-no, so the vet it is next week, instead of next month as planned. Here she is with her new scarf:

I was playing with Procreate Pocket on my phone, and did some funny drawings, here are videos:

These were fun really 🙂 I wish I had an iPad and a real Procreate. I plan to get one for my birthday. Let’s see…

I also started transforming my web site. I have a home page now with the link to this blog. I have another domain name, which I will change when it’s all finished. It’s hard because I need to learn how to do stuff and most of the time I am just guessing and trial-erring, but I am sure that I will get there eventually.

We managed to walk every day for an hour – that’s a new one, we drive somewhere and them Lola too walks, no problem. We are discovering paths in nature which are very close to our place, like 10 minutes drive no more, so that is something to really be grateful for. I had no idea we lived in such a great place. Does this sound weird? Anyway, I hope I will be able to continue with these great walks when work starts. I really hope. They make these winter days bearable. Actually, there is no real winter, the temperatures are most of the time above zero and there was snow only one day and it did not even require shovelling, so it does not count at all.

So this is it for the first full week of January 2021. Not too bad. We are still standing. Let’s gently flow…

Stamped Mandala in Progress

Mandala, Stamp Carving

You could see yesterday, if you read my post, that I carved a flower stamp to use in my new mandala. I used the leaf stamp too, which I carved for #carveDecember last year, and I also quickly carved a cirle yesterday, which will come very handy in future mandalas. Today I finished coloring it and tomorrow it’s all about doodles.

It’s been a dark rainy day here today. I haven’t slept well and feel rather tired. I am catching up with my ‘Over the Rainbow’ course this week and I have two more drawings to do over the weekend. Maybe then I can show you my progress. There are good drawings and some less good, I am not so proud of 🙂 Good thing about Jane’s courses is that she is really pushing my boundaries. Half of the time I feel like giving up and running away from the lesson (screaming for help) and the other half I am happily patting my back, really surprised that I could pull it through. Anyway, you will see soon what I am talking about.

Two New Mandalas and a Stamp

doodles, Mandala, Stamp Carving

I have been lazy again. Days are shorter and shorter and to-do-list longer and longer. Each day I am catching up with something and it makes me nervous. By four pm I am exhausted and need to rest. Am I getting older and more easily tired or is it just an impression, maybe I am just trying to do more and more and I am not managing. Anyway… I have finished the mandala that I showed you in the last post. I am quite pleased with it, even though there are some new paints for making dots that I bought last week and tried out and they did not impress me…

The other mandala I finished is this one:

I used my stamps to create the shapes and colored it with markers. I also bought some new Liquid Pearls this week (they are the best!), so I used them too. I am rather ok with this one, even though it is not properly centered on paper, so it is not usable for framing, as a bit of stamp went over the edge of paper. Ah, well…

Today I carved another stamp to use in mandalas. I’ve been planning to do that for quite some time, and finally got to it this morning. I chose a simple flower design, which was easy to carve and gives unlimited possibilities in designing mandalas.

#carveDecember: Days 25-31

Stamp Carving

I promised the other day I would show the rest of the stamps. There are seven left. The first one is a double-sided garbage stamp:

Then there is the only one of the large ones which is not a snowflake but a flower:

And then this one that I particularly like, also a garbage one, but very nice I think because it can be a flower or a butterfly 🙂

The next one is a snowflake which was quite successful and I like it a lot.

Then, there is this garbage one that I didn’t find very successful when I first stamped it, but then I realized that the leaf shape is very nice on its own and it can be used as a leaf or as a flower:

Another very simple garbage stamp, but if used with imagination, can produce interesting pattern:

And finally the one that you have already seen and maybe wathed the video, the last snowflake for this December:

I downloaded a new program for blogging, because I was extremely annoyed with WP interface and lack of responsivenes. The program is called Blogo, it’s available for Mac and I-devices only (which is a pitty, because I have an android phone, so I will have to post from computer if I want to avoid frustration of WP app) and it works well, I am still getting used to it so I cannot say if it will make me completely satisfied, but for the time being (two days) it looks good.

That’s it for the second day of this year. I am on my usual month-off, so no frustration about work and lack of time for art. Ah, the freedom…

#carveDecember Flip Through

Stamp Carving, video

And here are all 31 stamps that I carved during the 31 days of December:

I am very happy I did not miss a single day and I did not run out of ideas 🙂
It seems that actually it is not possible to run out of ideas when you are drawing snowflakes, they are such an amazing subject, so many combinations, go with simple chapes and you cannot go wrong.

Here is also the video showing all the stamps and prints I made:

#carveDecember: Days 21-24

Stamp Carving

It’s got really busy with preparation for Christmas and doing art. I am bravely keeping up with #carveDecember. Until now I haven’t missed a single day and I plan to keep it that way until the end of the year. Here are the stamps 21-24; the light is bad again – these days we don’t see the sun at all, so even during the day it’s not possible to make a decent photo. Besides, I carve the stamps usually early in the morning or in late afternoon, so it’s the lamp light for photos. I will make a video once the month is complete, so I hope to capture them all in better light.

Anyway… The first one is a garbage stamp, double-sided, of course:

The second one is the same:

And then I decided I need another snowflake. It was a bit difficult to carve those thin bits, but I am rather happy how it turned out. I am still on that same defective piece of rubber, you can see that it does not stamp perfectly.

2016-12-23-19.27.14_wm.jpg.jpg

And the fourth one I carved today. This is the last piece of that same rubber and here it looks fine, probably I carved out all the bad parts. This was quite time-consuming to carve, but I am really happy with it.

2016-12-24-14.44.43_wm.jpg.jpg

That’s it for today’s post. We will be preparing a nice dinner (Mother is just putting the meat to roast). I made a carrot cake yesterday. Christmas is one of rare occasions for baking cakes (the other two being New Year and two birthdays). When the meat is done, we will put our dinner in front of the TV and watch Netflix until we can’t keep our eyes open. And yes, we will also drink a bottle of champagne and get a bit tipsy. That’s the big plan for tonight!

I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

#carveDecember: Day 20/31

Stamp Carving

And yet another snowflake. I finished this  one tonight, hence the low quality photo. It was impossible to get it done earlier because I was in the office and there was anyway almost no light today.

The weather is just awful and temperature under zero. I went this morning to pick up my driving licence. Tomorrow I take Mother to the doctor and that’s all errands done for 2016 I hope.
