Color me brightly

  • Week 23 February – 1 March 2015

Some virus was playing with my nose and throat this week, and I was pretty scared that I will end up with the flu, the horrible flu which almost nobody from the office could avoid. I took some preventive herbal nose and throat spray and it helped. So, yes, I think I am out of it.

I did two line drawings on Wednesday, but did not scan them, so they will have to wait for another post. On Sunday there was again the arty morning: I made a journal page with a pattern from one of those Wednesday drawings. Here it is:

It buckled a bit… And here are some details:

I also recorded the process and the video is here:

Another thing that I did on Sunday morning was my Monthly Journal Page:

I decided to document each month this year, so I write important things that happen, add important photos and list movies that I watched, books I read, and so on. I filmed this one too, but did not have time to edit the video. I will do it tomorrow I think.

And here’s the Monthly Journal Page I did for January:

And, as I already have the photo of this weeks project I am posting it:

I am working on a piece for Life Book 2015, which includes using gold leaf. I first thought I would skip this lesson, but then watched the video on Saturday and I thought I ma do it.. It was fun. I used double sided adhesive sheet, as I did not have any special glue for gold leaf. This worked perfectly – I cut the circles and stuck them on the page and then removed the other protective foil from he adhesive sheet and put the gold leaf on. How cool is that? I just need to do the flowers around them. I think I will use the same dandelion pattern from the Sunday journal…

  • Week 16-22 February 2015

This week I finished two pieces that are Life Book 2015 related. One was a lesson by Violette Clark:

My heart was not really in this one. I should have used different colors on the house, but… Ah well. It’s done. Anyway, I am kind of late with the Life Book lessons. I did not like some of them, and for others I did not have time. I guess it’s not really so important. I should have a good time, learn something new and keep doing it every week. That is what really counts 🙂

The other piece that I did is the one I really liked. Tam sent it at as Valentines present for us. I really enjoyed it. I used watercolours, Neocolor II crayons, newspapers, stamps for leaves, owl and cat. Butterflies are cut from a napkin and coloured by markers. Girl’s dress is assembled of scrapbooking paper. Stars are made with stencil and modelling paste.

  • Daisies (Week 9-15 February 2015)

This was a nice week. I was busy with office work, but I found time to do some line art and also to record two videos. What occupied me most was Claritystamp challenge. I decided I will enter the challenge for the first time (mostly because I finally have the necessary stamp!). Here is my work:

    Daisies

It was challenging, because I have never done stamp masking and layering before. I’ve seen videos, so I knew the technique, but I did have some trouble with positioning the masks – probably could have marked them somehow or thought about not turning the stamp around 🙂 Anyway, it went well…

    Here are some details:

    And the video:

  • Not a very good week really. Mostly because on Tuesday I fell down the stairs and bumped my head really hard, so I was good for nothing for the next 3 days. I did not feel like creating anything and could not really make up for the delay on Life Book 2015 from last week. Well, that’s life.

On Friday I felt better, so I started the Week 6 lesson. Had a lot of trouble with blending those acrylics, and then used some oil pastels, which worked really well, but then when the time came to doodle over it with black and white pens, it was hell. I should have sealed it with transparent gesso, but I was too lazy, so I rather suffered and did it the hard way. So, this was not much pleasure, but I kind of like the bright colors and the doodles after all 🙂

  • My first working week in this year. I did do some art, but it was really just a little. I missed the weekly lessons from Life Book 2015, but I was working a little on my monthly journal page (a large page where I will summarise the monthly achievements, just not to forget what I did and also to see that I actually did a lot because I refuse to admit it usually). Anyway, I will not post work in progress, because I really do not like how it looks for the moment :), but we are getting there. It must be done this week, otherwise it will not make much sense… For today therefore I am posting another colouring page, which I did some time ago.

  • I think I will need to separate colouring pages from mixed media, so today I will do just a review of what I did last week, and as i did not do any line art, I will leave that to tomorrow. This has been a pretty exciting and colourful week.

First I did a piece for Life Book 2015, which is supposed to represent a dancer on a high rope, with the text: Courage Dear Heart. I had quite a fun with this. Found 500 muffin cups when I was cleaning the kitchen and the idea struck me to use them to make the skirt for my ballerina.

Then I finished another thing for Life Book 2015, which is a jar of awesome. The goal was to decorate a jar in which to collect notes with nice memories from this year. No notes yet in the jar, because I just finished it and was a bit lazy to write the notes… but it will happen.

    Photo 24-01-15 11 24 38

I used a napkin with a bicycle and Eiffel Tower, saying Love  Peace and Happiness, quite right for the jar of awesome. This is the lid, painted with acrylics and with a die cut flower and a half-bead as flower centre.

    Photo 24-01-15 11 24 58

    The bicycle:

And a bit of Xmas ribbon around:

    Photo 24-01-15 11 25 35

And this is another quick project this week – a notebook I will use at work for meeting notes and meeting doodles 😉 I used one of my coloured pieces (video here) and glued it to an ugly notebook cover to make it pretty and shiny:

    Photo 24-01-15 11 27 04

Here’s a bit of detail. As it is painted with watercolour, I glazed it over to protect it.

    Photo 24-01-15 11 27 59

And this is the back side (old napkin I used to clean my brush when painting :)). I think it looks cool.

    Photo 24-01-15 11 28 07

And finally, I did this today to try out new stamps and stencils from Claritystamp. This is the completed piece.

    Photo 25-01-15 12 21 54

And some details. I used die cut hearts over a large heart, because I did not like the final look of it…

    Photo 25-01-15 12 22 08

It is all done on a piece of corrugated cardboard from some packaging. I covered it first with gesso and then with acrylic paints. Then I used the stencil with modelling paste and then again acrylics over the modelling paste.

    Photo 25-01-15 12 22 34

The black lines are done with a pen. LOVE is a letter stamps, flowers are by Claritystamp. I also used pink and yellow glitter, Faber Castell pitt markers, and a white paint marker.

    Photo 25-01-15 12 22 40 Photo 25-01-15 12 22 51 Photo 25-01-15 12 23 07

And the saddest thing is: I recorded it all on a video and when I finished and wanted to switch off my iPod I realised that it died on me somewhere around the middle, without a beep. So, there is no video 😦

So, first of all here is the colouring page for this week. I did it some time ago.

    2015-01-09 15.47.15

This one is a tag made for Life Book 2015 Week 2. It is done with acrylics, water soluble crayons, glitter glue, white gel pen and one of my art journal page photos, all glued with gel medium. I never made tags before, so this was kind of first time. Not bad, quite fun, just cannot see the use of them.

    Photo 14-01-15 12 53 11

And finally my attempt at Week 3 lesson in Life Book 2015. I had much fun with the letters and lots of trouble with the flower, but finally it turned out nice. Done with water soluble crayons, black ink marker, Faber Castell pit pen and white paint marker.

So, that was a new colouring page for this week. I have been quite busy, starting the Life Book 2015 and doing two lessons for it. I am quite proud of the Beacon of Light that I made for Week 1:

    Week 1 Beacon of light

I think she is really cute. I know that I should have done more work on her eyes and face, but knowing my lack of patience, I am really happy I managed this much. It is quite large – 25.5 x 35.5 cm, so VERY large for me, doing my stuff usually on A5 size.

I did post a couple of videos on Youtube last week (it was a very productive week, no wonder since I am on holiday and using each free moment to create something). I will link to one of the videos here (the most beautiful one :)) It is me colouring one of my pages, which I really do not do often I must admit [blush].
