She Thinks Positive Journal 19-20

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media, She thinks positive journal, Watercolor

It’s been one busy week and I did not do much art. Last two days I’ve been back to my Black Book – discovered an unfinished mandala kind of something there and have been working on it, doodling with white pen and making dots with Perfect Pearls. It was meditative and soothing. As that one is not finished yet, I am not posting it now. Rather here are the two faces and two messages I did in She Thinks Positive Journal.

Do you see how her eyes are not at the same level?! Imagine that I did not notice it before she was almost done!!! And then it was too late. Ah well… I used color pencils to add definition and detail on top of watercolor. It works well.

Today is a big local holiday. There will be huge fireworks tonight. I hope it will not rain 🙂

Leonardo’s Warrior

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media

Last week’s lesson from Life Book. I was always drawn to try and draw this face and here came an opportunity. I’m quite pleased with him.

The background is acrylics and on top I used pencils, charcoal and oil pastel. The original is on the right ;).

October Course Work

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media

Ok yes. Winter is approaching, darkness is here. I am depressed. My thoughts are heavy. My mood is bad. I am poisonous to the people around me. I am lonely. I don’t want company. I am tired. I have headaches almost every day. In spite of all that I make myself go out to the air (and sun, because days are actually warm and beautiful) every day for at least an hour. I think it helps. I make myself art journal every morning. No excuses. And it goes on like that. Christmas is approaching and I always liked everything around it. The lights, the fairs, the baking, the ornaments. This year I don’t seem to be in the right mood. But let’s not despair. It may still come.

I am documenting today the course work I did during October. It’s not much. I’ve done many journal pages, but not so much of course work. It somehow was more important to do the personal stuff. That will be another post, hopefully soon, because even writing this has been a tremendous effort. But I am doing it.

First there are three spreads done for Book of Days with Effy Wild. I really enjoyed that course and I am really satisfied with all the spreads I did there. They were not fast and easy. They needed lot of work, but it was well worth the effort and time.

And the next three are from Radiant Art Journals again with Effy Wild. This course however is taught by several teachers, and I must say  that the first two lessons were real suffering and the third which I just started is even more suffering. They are simply not me and I cannot say that I enjoyed making them. Here is the first by guest teacher and then Effy’s version of that same lesson:

The overlapping faces felt scary and uncomfortable, and the three girls simply look soulless to me. I don’t know… Probably I need to get something of myself into them, to do my version of it. I did a bit with the overlapping faces but the whole concept somehow did not work for me.

The next lesson by guest teacher is below. Effy’s version of that I am still doing (that one is proving to be much more to my liking, so I am doing it with pleasure and will post it in one of next posts).

And that’s all. I am glad I managed the post, all things concerning 🙂 If you read it, I am grateful… Hope to be a better host next time…

Week 7-13 September 2015

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media

Difficult week behind me. I had a migraine for two days and took loads of pain killers. Not happy about that at all. And it’s not only those two days with the actual pain, but also a day afterwards that I am not totally back to normal, like I have just come out of a big flue, feeling all weak and wobbly.

Anyway… It was not such bad time for art. I did this beautiful girl for Book of Days. I am very happy with how she turned out. Love her face tone and her lips 🙂

And then I realised that the Art Journal Summer School is over and I still have four lessons to finish. So I managed to  do three of them this week. This one is inspired by Picasso. We were supposed to go to a museum and get inspired, but with the headache and lack of time, it was not possible, so I just googled around a bit and thought Picasso is just the right thing for me to try. It was strange to do, but the result is quite right. 🙂

And then this piece with Juna Biagioni. I’ve been for quite some time impressed with her way of doing faces, so this was a great opportunity to learn from her. I am not happy with this, unfortunately, I lost patience and did not quite finish her. I will have to try again. Juna is preparing her own course, which I will definitely take.

Finally, one more lesson from AJSS. This was nice and easy, but somehow got very emotional for me. I really love summer and now when I feel that autumn is approaching I feel truly sad. Just like her.

Week 31 August – 6 September 2015

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media, video

So… This week I was finishing with emotional overload and everything settled down and is back to normal. I have made this emotional spread in my art journal:

2015-09-01 09.14.14 1

I really love these two beings together and will probably do more of them soon. I also recorded a video of this page:

Next piece I did after watching Effy Wild’s post in Moon Journaling for August full moon:

2015-09-04 08.54.19 1

It’s representing my hidden inner identity… That’s how it felt at that particular moment 🙂

And then just for fun I did the back cover page of my big art journal, which is almost complete, there are just two more pages to finish:

2015-09-01 08.10.35 1

And one more spread in my art journal which was kind of fun to do:

IMG_20150904_084931 1

I filmed that one on the video too:

And then, something new – I have joined Book of Days: Facing Forward with Effy Wild. It’s a six weeks face painting course and this is Week 0 lesson, which is supposed to be the front cover of the journal. For me, it is not, because I already made the cover to this journal before, but the journal was empty otherwise and contains beautiful Fabriano Artistico paper, so I thought it’s perfect for this class 🙂

Finally, I finished one more lesson from Art Journal Summer School. There are four more lessons to go. Actually the school finished, but I am a bit behind, so I have to put some effort into completing it, because I promised to myself that I will do all lessons in this school. And it would do no good not to keep a promise to myself, right?

Weeks 17-30 August 2015

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media

Obviously, I have forgotten to write a blog post last week 😦

I remembered on Sunday, and I thought I would do it then. So it’s Wednesday and I obviously took my time again, so I may as well do the two together 🙂

My last week was extremely busy and emotional, and no wonder I forgot about blogging. I had two visits to the dentist and no visit to Art Store…. And then I met a friend whom I haven’t seen in eight years and that triggered lots of not so nice memories and loads of emotions I needed to work through. But I am happy to report that all is fine and, with a little help of my art making I feel wonderful again.

So, let me give you photos from last two weeks. The first is this one which I did in my small journal. I used some oil based printing paint (white you see on the borders). I was very excited about that because I wanted so much to use white color for stamping and wanted it to be real paint and not ink pad. It kind of works, but it takes ages to dry (3-4 days) which is not acceptable amount of time if you are stamping into your art journal… Seriously…

2015-08-17 08.27.15 1

Then I did some stamp carving. I am very excited about the result:

2015-08-17 08.28.16 1

This was done on the front cover of my new big journal with beautiful Fabriano hot pressed watercolour paper. Yum! I started colouring it, then it did not really work, so I keep playing and layering and this is how it ended:

IMG_20150823_091551 1

After lots of layers, I stamped again on top, but this time with the white acrylic paint mixed with some retardant medium. It serves to slow down the drying of acrylic paint, so that you can keep stamping repeatedly for some  15-20 minutes. Just what I needed. Good bye oil paint! Perfect!

The next thing I did was a rather quick painting of Minerva (goddess of wisdom) for Life Book 2015 class. I felt really inspired to do it, so it was happy easy and quick painting:

2015-08-20 07.23.10 1

After that, I did two pieces for Art Journal Summer School:

2015-08-25 09.47.28 1

This one with collage birds, which was not really exciting, you can see… I simply do not like doing birds…

2015-08-29 12.18.51 1

And this one which was really cute and I love it and I will probably do more. It’s quickly done, but somehow looks really funny. I decided to add a little story, somehow felt that it must be their story 🙂

And then, as I said, I met that friend of mine and was filled with emotions to bursting so the following two pages were therapeutic and are extremely precious to me:

IMG_20150829_081627 1

Yes, there is a spelling mistake. Like many other people, I suddenly lose the skill of spelling correctly when writing slowly… 🙂

IMG_20150828_080957 1

This one is my most loved page in my journal until now…

Again, I am amazed at how art making helps with de-stressing and putting things in perspective. I have no idea what happens in the process, but it works. Just listening to your intuition and letting go, without aim and without a precise idea of what you want to create. It’s meditative and it’s healing and it’s so rewarding… Long live art journaling! 🙂

Week 10-16 August 2015

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media

The week started badly with a migraine headache from Saturday to Monday. On Tuesday I was just about getting over it and I had to go to the dentist. The dentist visit was hard enough, so I absolutely had to reward myself with a visit to the Art Shop nearby (this makes visits to dentist almost to look forward to…). Er… No! Anyway…

I bought those marvellous Sennelier oil pastels two weeks ago and I tried them in my journal:

IMG_20150809_161917 1

The pastels are great, creamy and they layer so nicely. Amazing. I used a bit of gesso and a toothpick for doodles. When I finished, I realised that I absolutely have to seal it, because it would stick to the previous page. So, as I did not have any oil pastel fixative, I used acrylic varnish. Ugh! It leaked through the paper to the other side and smeared the pastel. It kinda worked for sealing, but was very messy. Then when it dried, it was sticky, so I had to put some talcum powder over it and then it finally was ok. I read on the internet that Sennelier has a spray for sealing the oil pastel, but some users reported that it actually did not work for them. So I decided to save myself from spending money on something that may not work and stick to the varnish, preferably water based.

So you can imagine my pleasant surprise when I saw this in the Art Store:

It’s actually paper for oil pastel plus transparent glossy sheets between them, which makes sealing totally unnecessary, unless you want to tear sheets out of the block, which I usually don’t do. So, happily, I tried it out:

IMG_20150814_162422 1

Amazing! The paper gets some getting used to, actually I realized that I could not smear the thin layer of pastel at all on it unless I put a layer of gesso first. I use gesso anyway, so it did not take long to figure it out. This is obviously unfinished and I haven’t worked on it since, as I started some other projects. But it was a pleasant activity, to be continued…

And one of the other projects is another flowery doodly spread in my art journal:

IMG_20150814_073731 1

I had to place glass on my desk to protect it from paint. Unfortunately I had a painful realisation that the desktop is not smooth, but kind of rough and perfect for getting paint into the ridges and never getting it out. Hence the reflection on the photo… I used an unusual color combination, but it worked and I really enjoyed this. Here is a detail:

Week 27 July – 2 August 2015

Art Journal, Faces, Mandala, Mixed Media

This week I decided that it’s time to finish two mandalas which I started some time ago. Here they are:

2015-08-05 11.31.17 1 2015-08-05 11.32.10 1

Then, it was quite a stressful week and I had to do some things that I really did not want to do, which left me quite exhausted and disturbed. I finished them and all is fine again and I am happy that I dealt with them. 🙂 So, i had to do some journaling to help me deal with those. Actually, I do not know if it helps really, but at least I do discharge some of the anxiety caused by thinking about things I do not want to do… In any case, no matter what is the underlying principle, it makes me feel better. Here is the journal page done in distress last week:

2015-08-05 12.33.11 1

Finally, there was a bonus lesson in Lifebook 2015 this week, which means a short video and easy task. This time it was making your hamsa hand. I guess it just kind of rounded up this stressful week for me, as it is supposed to be a protection symbol. Here it is:

Week 29 June – 5 July 2015

Art Journal, Faces, Mandala, Mixed Media

It was a happy week. I am saying that because even though it was my “go to office” week when I usually don’t manage much of my art, I anyway did find time to create. That makes me very happy. The first thing I did is this little art journal entry:

I used gelatos for background and then drew the face over with Derwent drawing pencils and gesso. The pink and gold (which seems green on the shells and face are done with color pencils. Finally, the stamp is from ClarityStamp. It was done quickly, but I am really happy with how the face turned out.

On the opposite page of my journal, while waiting for paint to dry on the face, I did this mandala drawing with color pencils. Oh, it was such a bliss to do mandala again. I have no idea why I stopped drawing them. It’s pure happiness. I used black and white pens for doodles and borders after I finished with color pencils.

And then, jus because it made me so happy, I drew another one. The same process as above…

22-28 June 2015

Art Journal, Faces, Mixed Media, video

Hello World!

I am not going to let this week slip by without the blog post, eve though I have a lot of work and keep postponing the blogging. So, here it comes.

Last week was really productive, I recorded two more videos. One is a black and white face done with charcoal and gesso on a colorful background:

The other one is a two page spread in my art journal, done with acrylics, a photo of my older artwork, modelling paste, hand made stencil…. There is a face also, actually a moon face, done quickly, but it turned out rather nice.

Here’s the closeup of the moon face 🙂
